Appearance & Language
Kinderpedia Admissions supports multiple languages and visual themes to accommodate schools worldwide. This article explains how to change the interface language and adjust the appearance.
Changing the Interface Language
Kinderpedia Admissions supports 47 locales. Five languages are fully translated:

The remaining 42 locales are registered and ready for translation. If your preferred language is not yet fully translated, the system falls back to English for any missing translations, and then to the translation key itself as a last resort.
How to Switch Languages
- Look for the language switcher in the header bar (globe icon) or in the sidebar settings.
- Click the language switcher to open the dropdown.
- Select your preferred language from the list.
- The interface updates immediately -- no page refresh is required.
TIP
Your language preference is saved and persists across sessions. When you log in again, the interface will display in your previously selected language.
Right-to-Left (RTL) Support
When you select a right-to-left language such as Arabic, the entire interface layout mirrors automatically:
- The sidebar moves to the right side of the screen.
- Text alignment changes from left-to-right to right-to-left.
- Navigation arrows, icons, and form layouts adjust accordingly.
- Tables and data grids reorder their columns for RTL reading flow.
RTL support is built into the application and the design system components. No additional configuration is needed -- simply select an RTL language and the interface adapts.
Supported RTL Languages
- Arabic (
ar) -- fully translated. - Additional RTL languages can be added as translations become available.
Theme: Light and Dark Mode
Kinderpedia Admissions offers light and dark visual themes:
- Light mode -- the default theme with a white background and standard contrast.
- Dark mode -- a darker color scheme that reduces eye strain in low-light environments.
Switching Themes
- In the header bar, locate the theme toggle button (sun/moon icon).
- Click the icon to switch between light and dark mode.
- The theme changes instantly across all pages.
TIP
When Admissions is accessed within the Kinderpedia platform iframe, the theme toggle may not be visible in the header. In that case, the theme follows the parent platform's settings.
Translations Management (Administrators)
School administrators with configuration access can manage translations through the Translations page:
- Navigate to Configuration > Translations in the sidebar.
- From this page you can:
- Export all translations as a ZIP file for offline editing.
- Import updated locale JSON files to add or correct translations.
- Fetch translations from the central Kinderpedia Translator API.
This is useful for schools that want to customize specific labels or provide translations for languages not yet covered.
WARNING
Importing translations overwrites existing translations for the imported locale. Always export a backup before importing new translation files.
Date and Number Formatting
Date and number formats automatically adjust based on the selected locale:
- English: April 22, 2026 / 1,234.56
- Romanian: 22 aprilie 2026 / 1.234,56
- Arabic: displayed in Arabic numerals with RTL date formatting
The system uses the school's configured date format preferences where available, falling back to locale defaults.
