Navigating the Interface

Kinderpedia Admissions uses a sidebar-based layout that gives you quick access to all areas of the module. This article explains the main navigation elements and how to move around the application efficiently.

The Sidebar

The left sidebar is your primary navigation tool. It is organized into collapsible groups:

Admission Module

The top-level group that contains all admissions-related pages:

  • Dashboard -- your home page with widgets, stats, and quick actions.
  • Rosters -- a collapsible sub-group containing:
    • Enquiries
    • Applicants
    • Students
    • Alumni
    • Families
  • Contracts -- manage enrollment contracts (if enabled).
  • Calendar -- view all scheduled activities across leads in a calendar view.
  • Reports -- access preset and custom reports.

Configuration

Available to users with configuration access, this group contains:

  • General Settings -- school-wide settings, campuses, and academic years.
  • Admissions -- programs, applicant statuses, engagement levels, roster settings, and tags.
  • Forms -- manage application forms.
  • Checklists -- configure checklist templates.
  • Fees -- set up enrollment and application fees.
  • Email Templates -- create and manage email templates.
  • Pipelines -- configure pipelines and stages.
  • Workflows -- build automated workflow rules.

System

Additional system pages accessible from the sidebar:

  • Import/Export -- bulk import leads or export data.
  • Activity Log -- audit trail of all changes.
  • Workflow Logs -- execution history for automated workflows.
  • Users & Roles -- manage team members and their permissions.
  • Notifications -- system notification settings.

Collapsing and Expanding the Sidebar

  • On desktop, the sidebar is always visible. Click the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the header to toggle it.
  • On mobile devices, the sidebar opens as an overlay. Tap outside the sidebar or use the toggle button to close it.

The Header Bar

When accessed outside the Kinderpedia iframe (e.g., during development or direct access), a header bar appears at the top of the screen containing:

  • Module title -- "Kinderpedia Admissions"
  • Notification bell -- shows unread notification count; click to view notifications.
  • Theme toggle -- switch between light and dark mode.
  • Language switcher -- change the interface language.
  • User avatar and name -- displays the currently logged-in user.

TIP

When Admissions is accessed within the Kinderpedia platform (as an embedded module), the header bar is hidden because the main Kinderpedia header provides these functions.

Detail pages (such as an applicant's profile or a family page) include a back button at the top that returns you to the previous list view. For example:

  • On an applicant detail page, clicking the back arrow takes you to the Applicants list.
  • On a family detail page, clicking back returns you to the Families list.

Page Structure

Most pages in Kinderpedia Admissions follow a consistent layout:

  1. Section Header -- the page title, subtitle, and action buttons (create, filter, view toggle).
  2. Stat Cards -- a row of summary statistics relevant to the current view (total count, overdue follow-ups, due today, high priority).
  3. Filter Bar -- search, filter dropdowns, and saved filter options.
  4. Main Content -- data table, Kanban board, or detail card depending on the page.

Keyboard Navigation

The interface supports standard keyboard navigation:

  • Tab -- move between interactive elements.
  • Enter -- activate buttons and links.
  • Escape -- close modals, dropdowns, and drawers.
  • Skip to main content -- a hidden link at the top of the page that becomes visible when focused (for screen reader users).

Notifications

The notification bell in the header (or sidebar) shows a badge with the count of unread notifications. Click it to navigate to the Notification Center where you can:

  • View all notifications with category filters.
  • Mark notifications as read individually or in bulk.
  • Search notifications by content.
  • Navigate directly to the related lead or entity.

Notification preferences can be configured at /notifications/preferences to control which events generate in-app alerts and email notifications.

Quick Actions

Many pages offer quick actions through buttons in the section header:

  • Applicants page -- pipeline selector dropdown and Kanban/Table view toggle.
  • Enquiries page -- "Create Enquiry" button and archived toggle.
  • Dashboard -- customize layout button, template selector, and reports shortcut.
